Lupe Barajas, local artist, is best known for his monumental works of Wyoming wildlife. His sculptures of a herd of mule deer and a group of galloping antelope are just two of his twelve pieces located in Cheyenne. The work of this Wyoming native and retired are instructor has been exhibited all over the state. You can find his website at http://www.barajasstudio.com. Lupe has also built an exclusive piece just for South High: a bronze cast, 5’8’’ bison head statue.

Lupe created the piece when South first opened its doors 8 years ago. Central High and East High have their own statue, so South needed one too. The statue is forged from a bronze-copper metal cast, and it will be seated on a 3’ stone white base. So why isn’t the statue already in place and shining with bison pride? One reason: its $30,000 price tag. Our administration has been debating whether to make the purchase since the statues creation in 2010. If bought, the head will be placed on our football fields stadium grounds, with placement construction beginning in the summer of 2018.
