Treading Traditions

Every team has a unique identity and with that comes a variety of different traditions. For the girls swim team, traditions facilitate team unity and create shared memories across several swimming generations. At South High School, the different traditions contribute a sense of comfort and belonging for new swimmers. Arianna Bliss (9) says, “We don’t wear swim caps at meets, instead we braid each other’s hair before our races, this way not only do we stand out from other teams, but we have quality time to bond with each other.” Other traditions include not shaving their legs until conference and doing a team chant after each of their divers go off the board.
